Elden Ring Will NOT Have An Easy Mode According To Director
One of the most hotly debated subjects in gaming right now is the subject of “Easy Modes” for games. Of course the topic of game difficulty is even more relevant with a From Soft title as the developer is known for challenging gameplay mechanics. But will Elden Ring have an “Easy Mode”? Should it?
Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently put any rumors to rest regarding game difficulty. According to Miyazaki in a recent interview with Famitsu, Elden Ring will NOT have an Easy Mode. In fact, Miyazaki states that Elden Ring will only have One difficulty level, with the idea being that the game’s developers want all players to share the same experience with identical dangers across the board.
That being said, Elden Ring is shaping up to be more accessible or “easy” than any other From Soft title in recent memory. This has nothing to do with game difficulty however, as Elden Ring’s action combat will certainly be challenging in a traditional From Soft sense. Compared to titles such as Sekiro and Bloodborne, Miyazaki commented that Elden Ring would have only slightly easier action combat compared to both, and that Elden Ring was closer in difficulty to Dark Souls 3. The true difference comes in how players are able to prepare for and ultimately defeat the game’s massive Demi-god bosses.
Elden Ring is an open-world action RPG with a greater focus on RPG mechanics than previous Souls-Borne style games. This means that players are able to freely explore the world as they choose and approach Elden Ring’s bosses in any order. If a boss is too difficult for players at that particular time, players are encouraged to explore the world further, unlocking new Weapons, Armor, Skills, Magical Abilities and even Spirits to help strengthen their combat prowess. The introduction of Stealth mechanics including bonus Backstab damage or even completely avoid an encounter are further possibilities. Finally, Online Co-Op is yet another means of approaching difficult encounters in Elden Ring. Can’t defeat a Demi-God? Bring a friend!
