New World Attribute Guide
How Attributes Work In New World
The 5 Core Attributes of characters in New World are:
When you first arrive in Aeternum, your Character will have 5 points in each of the core attributes and you cannot drop below that 5-point minimum. Each time your Character levels up, you are granted Attribute Points to spend on whichever Attribute(s) you choose.
Attribute Points in New World correlate directly with Weapon Mastery, particularly Weapon Strength and Damage. For example, players that invest heavily in Strength will do more damage with weapons like the War Hammer and Sword and Shield, while players invested in Intelligence will naturally do better with magical weapons like the Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet. To see which Attributes affect which weapon, review the table below.

Four out of the five Core Attributes in New World directly increase the effectiveness of your weapons. Investing in the correct Attribute for your weapon is an important aspect of optimizing your build in New World.

Primary vs. Secondary Attributes In New World
Some Weapons in New World can be increased in effectiveness by using two Attributes: a Primary Attribute and Secondary Attribute.
Primary Attributes in New World are the best source of increasing a Weapon’s effectiveness. This means you will gain more damage per Attribute point invested.
Secondary Attributes in New World ALSO increase a Weapon’s effectiveness, but at a slower rate per Attribute point invested.
For example, investing into Dexterity while equipping a spear will generally increase your effectiveness by about 2 Weapon Damage per 1 Attribute Point spent. Investing in Strength will only increase your Spear effectiveness by an average of 1 Weapon Damage per 1 Attribute point.
Constitution In New World
Constitution is the only Attribute in New World that does not directly affect Weapon Efficiency. Investing into the Constitution Attribute increases your character’s Maximum Health in New World. Generally speaking, all players can benefit from investing some Attribute points in Health for better survival, especially early on. Constitution will be the primary Attribute for most Tank Builds in New World due to the added Health and will also be particularly valuable for players interested in PVP content.
New World Attributes Descriptions
Strength
Strength is the primary attribute for Sword and Shield, Great Axe, War Hammer, and Hatchet and the secondary attribute for Spear. Strength can also increase your Melee Light and Heavy Attack Damage and improve your character’s Mining trade skill with enough points invested.
Dexterity
Dexterity is the primary attribute for Spear, Musket, Rapier, and Bow and the secondary attribute for Hatchet and Sword and Shield. Dexterity can also improve your Critical Hit Chance, increase bonus Backstab and Headshot damage and improve your ability with the Skinning trade skill with enough points invested.
Intelligence
Intelligence governs your power with magical weapons, including any magical Perks your weapons might have. Intelligence is the primary attribute for the Fire Staff and Ice Gauntlet and the secondary attribute for the Rapier and Musket. Physical weapons with a Magical Perk (such as the Ignited perk) grow in power based on your Intelligence Attribute. Intelligence can also improve your Light and Heavy Magic Attacks, Critical Hit Damage and your Harvest speed with enough points invested.
Focus
Focus governs your Mana recovery rate and is also the primary attribute that governs the effectiveness of the Life Staff. Higher Focus not only means that you can cast more spells more regularly but your ability to use the Life Staff is increased. Focus can also Mana Pool, healing output, duration of casted buffs and improve the fishing trade skill with enough points invested.
Constitution
Constitution governs your overall Health pool. The higher your Constitution, the more damage you can sustain before succumbing to your injuries. Constitution can also increase the duration of health consumables, reduce Critical Damage taken and improve the logging trade skill.
Attribute Milestones In New World
For every 50 points obtained in an Attribute, players unlock Milestones or Perks related to that Attribute. These are passive bonuses that grant you some very valuable stats like increased Critical Chance, increased Mana regeneration, bonus Armor and much more. How To Invest Your Attribute Points in New World
When you are just starting out in New World, putting points into the Constitution Attribute will be the most helpful due to the increased Max Health. Once you have around 20 points into Constitution you can then start investing in your Primary Weapon stat (see Primary vs. Secondary Stats above). This stat will give you the most Weapon efficiency per point invested.
Attribute Gains From Other Sources
You can gain additional Attribute Point bonuses with the help of armor, weapons, and trinkets.
Diminishing Returns Of Attribute Points In New World
There are diminishing returns on Attribute Point effectiveness starting at 100 points. You can go beyond this, but the higher your Attribute Points, the less effective power you will see in that stat.
